Prof. Dr. Sebastian Vollmer
Sebastian Vollmer is Professor of Development Economics at the University of Göttingen. His research examines the economic and social causes and consequences of bad health, access to care for cardio-metabolic diseases in the global south, the impact of nutrition interventions on child development and the long-run determinants of economic development. Sebastian Vollmer studied Mathematics and Economics at the University of Göttingen and also received his PhD in Economics from the University of Göttingen. He was Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University, Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at Dartmouth College and Adjunct Professor of Global Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He regularly works as a consultant for international organizations such as the World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, UNESCO, WFP and FAO. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals (including Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, The Lancet, The BMJ and Nature). He is a principal investigator of the DFG RTG 2654 “Sustainable Food Systems” and he was a principal investigator of the DFG RTG 1723 “Globalization and Development” and the DFG Research Unit 2432 “Social-Ecological Systems in the Indian Rural-Urban Interface”. Professor Vollmer has received the KfW Development Bank Prize for Excellence in Applied Development Research and the Science Award of the German Society of Health Economics.

Sabrina Rhode
Sabrina Rhode, MD is a physician and researcher with a background in ophthalmology and global health. She co-founded the HEALTHY PATHS – project in 2023 and has since been project lead and main coordinator together with Prof. Sebastian Vollmer. Her research bridges clinical medicine and global health, with a particular focus on improving access to care in low-resource settings. She has worked on smartphone- and tablet-based point-of-care diagnostic systems for monitoring HbA1c and lipid profiles, as well as on innovative approaches to mobile eye screening.
Sabrina Rhode is a physician at the Department of Ophthalmology, University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein in Lübeck, and a researcher at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (Prof. Till Bärnighausen) and at the University of Goettingen’s Chair of Development Economics/Centre for Modern Indian Studies (Prof. Sebastian Vollmer). She studied medicine at Hanover Medical School and gained international experience in Indonesia, Switzerland, and the USA.

Prof. Dr. Hizir Sofyan is currently serving as the Director of Graduate School of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Indonesia. The position he held since May 2022. His supervisors were Prof. Wolfgang Haerdle (Chair of Statistics Department, HU Berlin) and Prof. Oliver Guenther (President of Potsdam University). His areas of expertise include computational statistics, information technology, disaster staistics, big data and applied statistics. Furthermore, He is a professor at the Statistics Department, Syiah Kuala University. He is one of the initiators of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle International Conference on Mathematics, Statistics, and Their Applications (IMTGT ICMSA) which has been held every year up to 19 times. The IMTGT ICMSA was first held at North Sumatera University, Indonesia (2005) and the 19th conference was held at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2024). He is one of the board of directors of ordinary members International Association Statistical Computing – Asian Regional Section (IASC – ARS) from 2023 to 2027. He is also chair of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) Outreach Committee on South East Asia since 2020. He has actively participated in many international conferences on higher education and has been invited as speaker or forum’s panelist in many countries such as Japan, Marocco, Germany, USA, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.
